Starting the week off perfectly !!!!

Wow today's challenge was done by Vicki Dutcher and she told us to make a card with piercing on it... GREAT idea... I haven't done that in a very long time and I do so love to do it... so I went into my library of designs and chose one... and this one just kept on jumping up and hitting me in the face... so I did it, and knew that it was going to be a white on white card... wanted to do one with piercing all in white for a long time... and today was the day...

Also put a backing of paper with some of Martha's punching going on around the paper... and then of course I had to add a white on white butterfly with dotted swiss action going on... what else.. .

Put the butterfly on some spellbinders... just to give it some place to land... with a little bow and some pearls on the top and bottom... I love it... I love creating all white cards... yikes... they are so much fun.. Have you ever made one.. try it... just keep on building and building until you are satisfied with what you have created...

WEll I also have another post I want you to take a look at...
I joined a group of gals that are called the Pearly Girls... and we all started out with a book, and a theme of our own... and the book is being passed around to each and every one of us... I had my friend Victoria's and you can see the pages I created by going to www.artbetweenthepages.blogspot.com or just click on the picture on the ride side of the blog... you will see them all there.. .I really had a lot of fun creating them.. Hope you enjoy them too..

Thanks for stopping by and visiting me for a while... love having you come over.. if you stop by, leave a message and I will try and stop by your blog too.. thanks again...

A recipe book

This is the right page...

A book of Recipes

One of the gals in the Book group called Pearly Girls… created a book for recipes to be put into… So… I gave her some… in fact 8 recipes…

I wanted to show her some of the recipes that were in my cook book… as she is allergic to wheat… which I do use in my cook book… but the wheat can be substituted for other grains like rice and flax… which most people are not allergic to… also I wanted to introduce her to a new grain… Quinoa… which is really a very ancient grain… but most people are not aware of it.. and it is delicious and quick cooking… and very nutritious for you in so many ways.. .unlike wheat… which does very little other to clog up our plumbing… LOL.. .not funny but true..

So I started off with creating the back ground papers… I did a technique called ghost stamping… which is really very easy… gives a very unique look to the page though…

#1. You start off Glossy paper… and with a resist ink pad and stamp a stamp all over ….

#2. Then using a dye ink and brayer you cover the sheet with the ink and then allow it to dry for a few minutes… and then rub it off… all the ink that is… You will have a two tone paper at this point… white (which is the where you stamped) and the background which is the color ink or inks you chose to use… ( the stamp I chose to use was sage leaves by Fred Mullet)

#3. Then with Platinum Brillance, you stamp another design all over your paper…. (I used a pear)

#4. Then the final layer… you choose another stamp… this time I chose the asparagus stamp by Fred Mullet… and used a Archival Dye ink pad (Olive) to stamp all over again… This is now a completed Ghost stamped paper… and can be used for anything… Love this technique for many different things…

Okay… now I had to start to build the page up.. and I wanted to create the two cook books, so I copied the real covers of both books I published… (You can buy the original books by clicking on the book site over on the right hand side of the blog… and it will take you right to my publisher… Lulu. Com and you can purchase these books… each page in these cook books is collaged… and a lot of really great recipes that I love to use for all occasions…)

So I decided to put the books in a basket… is that a great way to carry food.. or anything that is special..??? So I had this great basket stamp… and after stamping it, distresses it with Tim Holtz Distressing Pads… and then cut the basket liner out… and put a brad so that it looked real… made a pocket to hide behind the basket… and this is where the book would sit and be safe…

On the left hand side of the page, I used the theme of Asparagus… as our asparagus are just now sprouting from the ground… and we are enjoying them every night… what a sheer pleasure they are… we love them… and generally eat them raw… like you would celery… they are very very good for you..

Behind each basket I tucked a doily looking circle punched paper… I used the Blue Hill Lotus Punch… which is wonderful… and used a light paper (computer paper) to create this… that is the only problem with these punches… you can’t use card stock at all… unless it is really really thin…

Then I made a wreath medallion… using my favorite flower.. the daisy… and a sign to eat your veggies and fruit… and added a Spellbinder border of apples along the top… I popped the apples out and colored them with my Twinkling H2O's by Dreaming in Color and then added dimension Pearls for the leaves… wow love it… it looks a lot better in real life… as everything does…

On the right side of the page, I used the theme of garlic and pears… I had to use that great garlic and pepper stamp… and also had to use the pears… as I have a recipe in there for Pear Clouforti… an all time favorite of ours… The pears are all done differently… but my favorite one is done in dimensional pearls… and each color is dotted onto the pear.. you can see it at the lower left of the basket… I added a ribbon and bow to this page… and some paper flowers… at the bow and also at the lower right hand corner of the basket…

The books are all made like the other book I have given you details on… and also each page is painted with the Twinkling H2O's by Dreaming in Color … Love it…

Now I just hope that Chris loves it too.. .and also that she uses the recipes…

Hope you have enjoyed this too…

Floating Accordion Book

This is what the finished Floating Accordion book looks like... and it is not difficult... believe me... it just looks it... Take your time and read carefully and it will go really easy and you will have a finished book that is really fun to look at...

I joined a book group and we are calling ourselves the Pearly girls... so this is the first page of my book... and this is just a section of it... go into the section called Pearly Girls and you will see the cover and the whole page...

Pocket

This is the pocket that the book lives in... the paper that the pocket is made out of is paper that I made with Twinkling H20's... a martha punch and some fiber... and of course some paper beads that I made with some the left over paper from the pocket... doesn't take much to make the beads...

The feet under the pocket, are MINE.... as the name on the book is My Creative Journey... it is all about what I do creatively...

Because the name of the book is Getting to Know You... so you need to know what I do... and this is the bare truth... LOL..

Cover

The cover of the book is made from K and Company papers... love the textured one on the very front... all embossed... lovely paper...

Okay..... are you ready to get started...
Start with two pieces of paper of the same length. One should be approx 2 inches taller than the other...

Fold each into an 8 panel accordion book....

Cut two panels off the shorter accordion book... You now have a 6 panel accordion book(short) and an 8 panel book... (tall)

Figure 1
To create a hole in the center of the taller book, pull the front and back panels aside. The whole will be cut through the center 6 layers. To support the hole, the head and tail borders, or frames need to be sturdy... 1 inch wide is appropriate. There must also be a pillar at the back spine edge of the panels.. The pillar should be at least 1/8th inch wide, but not more than half the width of the panel... Mark you measurements and cut...

The shorter accordion book will float in the center hole you have just created.

Figure 2

When open it will look like this... Easy enough.. just a lot of words to make sure you get it right... as you can make this any size you desire... a fun book...

Figure 3

Cut 1/4 inch slits in the head and tail of the shorter accordian book. These slits will be the in the center of each panel... as shown here ...

Figure 4

Cut centrally-placed 1/4 inch slits at the top and bottom of the holes in the panels of the taller accordion book. the slits should be in the center of the panels, not in the center of the holes.

Slip the first top slit on the shorter accordion book into the first hole's top slit in the taller book. The books should be oppostie of one another: one fold is a mountain and its partner is a valley

Figure 5
Continue working methodically, second slit to the second slit and so on until finished...

Repeat the process for the bottom slits. Close the book and open it again to set all the slits and panels in place.

You have now finished your Floating Accordian book...
I think the hardest part of this adorable book is saying that you are going to make it.. and then start to make it... it is really not that difficult... Have fun and enjoy making it...

A Traveling Book

A few weeks ago( A little bit longer... but isn't that how a good story starts) , a very good friend of mine, asked me if I would like to join a group of gals that is just starting to form... and I jumped o the chance to make make a new book...

Anyway the group is now called the Pearly Girls and we meet every two weeks to swap our books out for a new one to work on... Each gal has her own theme... and has created a book for each of us to work on a section in that book.. .the themes seem like fun... one is Random ARTiFACTS, what I love about living in the Carolinas, Recipes, hats, Design, and Nature... mine is getting to know you, since I only know one gal in the group and would like to get to know each one...

So in my book, they have two pages and can do anything that they desire... to create an area that is 100% representative of themselves...
So on these two pages... I have created things that are so me... Each gal has to create a pocket and in that pocket, they need to put a picture of themselves... and also put some facts down too... info that will let me know who they are...

I think that you can see from these pages that they tell who I am... and what I like... on the page with the daisies...(They are my favorite flower... for those that didn't know that... ) there is a book.. and in the book are all kinds of things like my favorite color, the loves of my life... including Glenn and other important facts... in the pocket is a book I created that has all my ART loves in my life... that is why it has legs on that pocket... LOL.. I love to draw legs onto things... Also my love of making medallions from Tea Bags that I have designed... so I had a lot of fun with these pages... Of course it is done 100% with Twinkling H20's... I just love those little paints...

The Cover... I used a Bare Naked Book by Bo Bunny and covered it with K and Company paper... and then added this painting ... I love the effect that I got... a nice release technique... embossing, and then painting (h20's) and then salting.. .and then finally using pearl Ex to accent the areas needed... Love it..

A little fiber... and it is ready for it's journey...
I will show you the other pages I create in each persons book.. and when this gets back I will share the pages that have been created in it... I think this will be a very fun project... and I am excited about being part of this group.. .

I do hope that you will enjoy the trip too..
Have a wonderful day... and enjoy creating something SPECIAL for YOU...
Love, Light and Peace... Bonnie
