Honoring CROWS

I guess I have a love /unlove relationship with crows... and I am trying to LOVE them... they have been fairly good this season.. .so I am allowing them back into my heart of hearts...  this tag is to

HONOR all CROWS

I used Tims Crow... and just altered the position so that they looked like different ones... crows seem to love to be together... and I always see them in groups of 3, 4 and more... they are so regal... the colors are blue/purple BLACK... deep deep black... I love it... they are wonderfully beautiful in all ways...  even their CRY... 

 

I used all of Tims new techniques... but did make a slight change with a few areas... 

 

But I did the background and didn't have enough color... so I added another color... and this is what happened... I happen to love it.. .so I went with it...  stamping that same wreath.. I love this wreath... as I love bittersweet and miss picking it here in our home... 

 

Okay.. here is where I went a little bit off color... I colored my separate paper with the inks... but then I stamped the Crow on it... trying to allow the blues and purples to shine thru... there really is purple there... but mainly denim and the new blue one???  can't remember the name right now... GREAT color...  love it.. 

 

Then using my palette and solution pen... I colored the bittersweet... 

 

You know that crows are very human like.. they are wild critters in their thinking.. .and this one is balancing on one leg on a thin piece of raffia... I think he is a little bit crazy... but he likes it there... 

 

My other three have taken to the bittersweet wreath... and are happy there... 

 

These words were so very fitting... and when I realized that I had chosen words that were actually left over and loose in my Remnant rubs folder and they were so fitting... WOW...  great words... huh??? 

 

 

My final tag...  I really love it... and it will go into my crow book that I am creating... you will see it one of these days... I promise you...  or maybe a version of it... never mind... you will see it.. 

 

Well I got this one posted and now am exhausted... I have been up way to long today... and need some sleep...  so I am off to Never Never land... (Peter Pan)  and will sleep very soundly... 

No school buses to wake me up in the morning...  and the chickens better sleep in too.. LOL.. (RIGHT???)

Framing the Ancestors

This time on Compendium of Curiosities 3 we are creating Painted Industrial ... which I really call Faux Metal... and I happen to LOVE creating it...  wow... you will see some old things that I had done in the past with this GREAT method... as I really love doing it...

For all the details and also all the EYE CANDY... please go to the site  to see it all...  I really think you should grab some toys and join in on the fun...  Tim's books are for sale on the site above... and in other places... but that and join in on the creations every other week...  what fun.  I love doing these challenges, as it keeps me on my toes...  and I love to see what I come up with... and also what everyone else does too... 

Here is mine for this challenge... 

 

So many times a family forgets where they came from... so I am leaving tid bits around so that our kids can understand who people were in their ancestry...  

 

This is a picture of my Husbands Grandparents... I am looking for the book (family blood line book, which I can't seem to find right now???  ) 

They were married around 1890....  yikes... that is a long time ago... 

 

Anyway... they had four children ...

Nellie and Alton McLain 

 

I wanted to do something special for this picture... as it is really such a LOVELY picture for the time it was taken...  her dress is so very pretty...  and I wanted to show that to the fullest... also the room that this was taken in... 

 

The frame is also a shadow box... about an inch deep.. and you will see why in a minute... 

I used the Faux Metal and created a frame and then also using the die cut, three times with chipboard and once with the faux metal...  to make a thick frame...  I guess you have to look very closely to see that... but the oval frame is raised...  and the back piece is against the panel...  The panel is a piece of paper from the Wallflower collection of paper... love that paper... 

 

I create faux metal flowers too...  and used alcohol ink on them... I didn't want a bright color flower... so I used a pearl white and then put mushroom dye on top of that...  I think they look a little vintage... which is what I was tying to create...  since this picture was well over 100 years ago... LOL...   

 

 

I put one on the top too...  smaller flower... these were cut from the Tattered Floral die strip by tim...  I have had that one for a long time... and really just started to use it a lot... love all the different flowers on that strip...  and of course the leaves...

 

So here is a closeup of the frame... 

 

I had to make this picture lighter, so you could see the ribbon and the little locket in the box... 

 

 

 

In here are the names, marriage date, birthdays of the 4 children and it will be kept with this picture... hopefully one day, someone will cherish this as I do.. 

 

 

 

NOW... here are some other items that I have made in the past with this WONDERFUL technique... I really do love this technique... and do use it a lot.. 

A frame...  the flower is embossed with the color... 

 

I made this for my Mom's 93rd birthday...  she just recently passed, and I hope that I will get this box back...  I love the different looks you can get with this technique...  that is why I am showing all these... 

Well you know me... more is always better... LOL.. .so here are a few of the boxes I have made... one year, I made all the men a box for Christmas... with a nice gift inside of it...  love it... the girls got the flower ones...

More tags for Tim's Challenge

I really shouldn't have taken the time today to play in the studio... but I did... no one was standing over me at all to do other things... or to play... so I played... what else??? 

Any way, I had a few more tags that I wanted to fill up with this technique... I really love it...  so to play along... go to Tim Holtz's blog... and you will find all the necessary info etc... 

So here they are ... the first one I call the Dance of the Dragonfly... if you don't know me well enough... you should know that I love Dragonflies and Snails...  silly... but the truth... 

So The Dance of the Dragonflies... 

 

I added a few charms... I had a large gold one... and a small silver one... and a really tiny silver one... so I got out my alcohol inks and played a little more than expected... LOL... I can always stretch a play time...  I love the brightness of the butterfly and the background paper... really WONDERFUL... this technique really makes this very easy to do... and it is lovely...

and the dancing Dragonflies.. .LOL... aren't they cute...  I did add a few beads just for the color... 

 

 

And the BOW... I have to tell you that I used all kinds of misc pieces for this one...  I have so many colored ribbons, that it was really fun to use all the different colors for a really magical bow... love this bow for that reason too...  wild huh???? LOVE IT ... 

 

 

And then... I had to try a butterfly one too... why not... I love butterflies too.. 

 

 

 

 

The pictures of this one didn't come out as nice... but you get the idea...  the colors are really bright and rich looking... 

 

I wanted this new saying that I bought to be colored... I didn't think quick enough and the plastic melted a little while I was embossing the color onto it... duh!!!  anyway... life does twist and turn... so I guess it belonged on here... LOL... I love it anyway...

so that was my afternoon...

 

Now I am going to go play with wool felting... I have a project that I want to finish up...  yes Sheila I am working on a house...

July Tag a La Tim

 Today has truly been a CHALLENGE day.... yikes... this is forth and fifth challenges..  yikes... am I addicted to this??? I think so... and I love it... I love sharing and doing all these fun things... also learning about all the different ways to use things...  


So this month Tim had us do a technique that is so fun.. one of my all time favorites... I love the look that the mixative gives to the inks... I don't have canned air... so I used a straw and blew the ink around the paper... and love the different looks I got... I did quite a few and have a few on here to share with you... if you haven't tried this one.. you really should... it is really wild...  love it...  

 I wanted to move onto the next step... so I used my heat gun.. and the mixitive 'bubbled' up a little bit... for a really nice bit of texture.... I love that kind of thing...  


I also grabbed the Olive Archival ink... vs the Black... oops... big time oops... but that is okay... I love it anyway... not as intense as the black would have been...  so this is great... 

 Using time... living time to the fullest...  living in the moment....  all of these things are my mantras now... as I am loving all the fun things in my life...  wow... what a fun time...  

 At the beginning of this I decided that I really wanted a pastel tag... so I used Sherbert and also pool... and then juniper... so I got a fun color scheme with that... 

 I also tried the sherbert and the pool with cranberry... thinking  and hoping that the mixative would calm down the cranberry... but not enough... so I tried one more... 

I used three greens... and then lemonade and peach Bellini...  think these are the correct names... but you get the idea anyway... 
So I used the first one for this tag... but these other ones will be saved and used for something else...  





So I used so of my Alcohol inks... and had a blast...  I really do enjoy them...  and will be teaching a class on the 26th of this month down at Scrapbook Creations...  for details please go here...

The Three Crowns

 

CHAPTER 17: Hurrah for the Red, White and Blue!

The White Queen gave a deep sigh, and laid her head on Alice's shoulder. `I am so sleepy?' she moaned.
`She's tired, poor thing!' said the Red Queen. `Smooth her hair -- lend her your nightcap -- and sing her a soothing lullaby.'

In the United States, we are celebrating Independence Day this month, so we have a patriotic Red, White and  Blue color challenge for you! Of course here in Wonderland we know those colors are for the White Queen, the Red Queen, and Alice's blue dress! Enter your red, white and blue project by July 27 for a chance at a prize from our sponsor.

 I read this and then went to Alice in Wonderland books and read the passage again... and saw that Alice had just received her crown .... so I made crowns for all three of the QUEENS...   

The colors... 
RED, WHITE, and BLUE!!!   

How surprising!!!  

So I got out my foil tape, and made three crowns... embossing the band of each one a little bit differently...  Alice's which is the blue... she got the Fluer di lis as she has been seen with one on the end of a ruling wand...  and of course her favorite color... BLUE... with a large A all decorated with Blue Heart gem stones!!!  She is a royal you know!!!!

 The White Queen.... she of course had all diamonds on her crown... (I wish !) and I used the snowflake embossing folder on her band...  white... and pretty... 


The little butterfly just had to go on the white queen's crown... she is so light and frilly... 

The Red Queen's Crown, which is up above... with all the red rubies on it... and the band has embossed hearts... so regal for the Queen of Hearts...  

All three of these crowns were fun to make... and the decorating was the most fun...  They were very easy to create... as I used my Tim Holtz small stapler... to put the crowns all together... so very easy using this...  Now the 'gem' stones... the diamonds, rubies and sapphires are all little clear 'dew drops' that I dyed with my alcohol inks...  and also put them onto the crowns with the Glossy Accents... as a glue!!!  Love that... it dries quickly and clear!! What more can you ask for when putting gem stones in place!!!!    You can get all these at Simon Says... and also MUCH MORE... hope you will take a look at their store front...  and I do wonder who will be lucky person to get this shopping spree??? That is a wonderful prize!!!  Yikes... I love it...

RED   WHITE    and   BLUE 

Patriotic Alice in Wonderland…

To use the Red, White and Blue theme I thought for a long time… and finally thought I would do a configuration box that I have wanted to do for a long time… but then there were some things that I wanted in my configuration box that were not in the theme of Red, White and blue… so back to the drawing table…

Okay… I could do a fun little album of Red, White and Blue things …. 

Things that appear in Wonderland…  for example the Red Queens dress is red, white and blue!!!  Right???  … but that just didn’t settle right with me…  I need to get really excited about a project that I am going to do…  and this one is being sponsored by Simon Says… and so I am using some of the WONDERFUL 6x6 printed paper pads that they have… I love to go to Simon Says and pick out all my 6x6 papers…  so very many to pick from… and perfect size for all my projects…  as I tend to work smaller than larger…  so I LOVE these pads…  I will use them on my project… with no problem… but what project am I going to do…

Finally pay day!!!  I made this… and I love it… and I had so very much fun making it… It is only 3.5 inches tall… not very big… and yet it will be mailed to a friend of mine that LOVES Alice things…  and it is will be treasured for ever and ever…  (I love friends like that… ) 

So I used white card stock to create the bones of this little book… and then created a special nook for each Red, White and Blue theme in the three cubby holes…

 RED
 The Red of course had to be the Queen of Hearts…  she is so red… her voice is even RED…  LOL… do you know what I mean…

 These are the 'wall' papers I used ...  I love them...  

 WHITE   

Then the WHITE… well that had to be the WHITE ROSES… that the cards had to paint RED!!! 

I decided to use this really great red rose paper as the three 'cards' were painting the roses RED... 

 BLUE  

And the Blue… well it had to be Alice… but I wanted something more.. so I added the favorite part of the Alice in Wonderland movie to this area… the BLUE BUTTERFLY!!!   

A little bit larger picture for you to see...  The smoke is even BLUE... LOL..   

 The detail on this paper is so very beautiful... and it is so ALICE to me... 

 I had to add this picture of the final scene of the movie... where the magnificent blue butterfly lands on Alice's shoulder!!!  And then flies off...  


So special... so I had to add it here... 

 

So there you have it… I added a few wooden red hearts to the front and back.. and I also used my Dylusion Sprays that you can also get at Simon Says… they are so very special… the colors are vibrant and alive…  I love them.. so if you don’t’ have them… hope fully you will get them from Simon Says…  (which I have to add this…  Simon says ships really fast…  I love it!!!)  

The papers that I used are from the following pads  Sweet nothings by Kaiser Craft, Conservatory by 7 Gypsies, Crush Collection by Bo Bunny  …. And I think a few more??? But when working I am not really focused on which book I am grabbing… but on the colors of the papers… LOL… just my problem…  but the papers are wonderful... 

This is looking down on the project... you can see the RED WHITE AND BLUE very clearly...  oh a little green is good luck!!!

Frames

 I have been trying to make a few gifts each month for Christmas presents... so here are a few more... I made Frames using metal tape and embossing it...  so very easy and look how pretty the frames came out...  !!!  I LOVE them... I even made a metal rose for one... and a poinsettia for the other... Of course I used my alcohol inks on all the frames... and also a piece of repurposed plastic from my bin...  

 I used a Spellbinder die to cut the frame on this one...  I love this particular die and at Christmas it is so very pretty... 

 I used some Liquid Pearls for the center of the poinsettia  flower...  just for an added touch...  and of course a little tiny seam binding bow... 

 On this one I used a few more Spellbinder dies... just a little different along with a Cuttlebug embossing folder...  


So very easy and great gifts for all on your list...  

Hope you are getting ready for the holidays in a little way...  it really helps to get started early and get it all done, so that you can goof off and enjoy the holidays...
