Olympic Circles is the Diva's request

I am a DIVA day... Yeah!!!  How exciting are these challenges... I love these types of things... it forces me to go out of my safe zone and create something that I would never most likely think of... CREATE something different.!!!  Love it...  

So today Rho has asked that we use the 5 Circles from the Olympic Logo and create with it... you have to take a look at what she has created... it is wonderful... maybe later on during the week I will have some free time to really play with this...  Just drawing the circles was a challenge to me... LOL... but this whole challenge was so very wonderful...  a real fun challenge.   I am a Diva Challenge can be found here...

So maybe I will be able to upload mine now...  the weather has been acting really crazy the entire day... and so maybe I will have to wait until later.... we will see... 

I wanted to show the different circles in color and also in spirit... as each represents a continent and I wanted them to be all totally different..  in all ways... which they are ...  The blue is a rope.. not really sure of the name... or if there is one.. .just love making the rope or braid... then the design girlande, diamond drops, peaks border and then coil... they are all a little bit different as I need to warp them a little to get them into a circle...

Well this only took me 3 hours to get these up... so now I had better get some things done...  and we have some company here too... so have a good evening... and see you tomorrow... as I think I will alter these a little bit... add some more and make it a little more ME...

More Zen Dalas...

 This week over at Bright Owl, Erin has a really different zendala... and it is quite challenging... but hey... that is why we do these challenges, isn't it???  For the challenge of trying to do something???  getting out of our comfort zone!!! Yikes.. .this was really got to me... but I did find quite a few things that I could have done... see the sketch at the bottom of this blog...  I really had a toss up... but I did the one with the snail and the flower... then I did this one with the Sunflower and the cosmos... I put an added dimension on the blue ring with a darker blue colored pencil... by adding the swirls...  it is suppose to be the hot summer sun twirling prior to a RAIN STORM... I pray for rain every day now... as we need it so very much...  we have been getting it too.. so it must be working.. .LOL... 

Now this one .... I just love this little Flyte that is in Totally Tangled book... Sandy's uniqueness in that book just is wonderful... if you dont' have it, you better get one.. it is a must have...  Love it... 

Well the water color pencils decided to have a run of the color... red tends to do that with my... but I still love this one...  I used pinks (which are very very pale... )  and then went to purples... all in the red family...  I love the sky scraper scene in the bottom of the picture...

So here are some of the other ones that I would have done... but I have just run out of time... but they all will work nicely in this zen dala...  I was going to do a auraknot in each one... but couldn't control the sizing...  LOL.. I love doing that design!!!  

So I guess I am officially totally addicted to this art form... called Zen Tangle... and if you try it ... you will be too... you can find the designs at www.tanglepatters.com... it will help you to get started with this really interesting art form... I never thought I would see Art therapy come thru so very strongly in a doodle art form... I love it...  love the learning I am doing about self too...

Summertime Pears

Sometimes when you get up in the morning you want to get so very much done.. but then you see all the great challenges that you want to do… so since I have a rather limited time to spend in the studio I wanted t o make the most of my time… so I combined them… into one journal page… 

 

For Studio L3, Linda has another challenge using page 42 this time in Tim’s book…  so I did that one when creating the background on this journal page…

Julie Balzer is wanting to see more journal pages… so I will put this into that challenge too… 

Just Add Water… well this I did do on so many levels..  but the theme is PEARS….

And Sunday Stamper, Hels asked for embellishments… which actually all the pears and the letters are embellishments… as is the leaf from Pretties by Bonnie.  

So I added one more factor… and that is Zen Tangling… which I have been having a ball with the past couple of weeks… I am totally addicted to it… and as you can see it adds a nice embellishment to the pears…  There are all kinds of these little designs and all are very simple to do… and follow and it really is addictive forming… right Sarah and Sandie and Sande????  A few of my S friends who all are totally involved too....

 

So that is my day so far…

I know that I will be back in with some more things later and also tomorrow… so check back for some more…

PS  we are having storms all around us, and it is difficult to get things up when it is storming... this dial up is crazy to say the least...  I pray for DSL so very much... but they never bring it... we are too far OUT!!!!   

Tangling all over the place

 I have to admit that I am totally addicted to this style of art ... I have been a doodler for over 50 years and have saved a lot of my doodles... but this is really addiction plus... I have really enjoyed it too... as I am a doodler at heart...  

The other day I received a beautiful card from a dear friend who happens to be 93 years young... she is still very active in creating... and I love it...  She too is TANGLING!!!  Go for it Sarah... I love it...  Tangling is for anyone who is open and interested in learning more about self, art, and living...  I feel it has done so very much for me... and I have been doing it only for two weeks now!!!!  Above is something that I found in another tangle done by someone else...  and I love the way it jumped off the paper... I have tried to do it... but it doesn't jump off like hers did... again I will try...  Who ever this was, I love the way she  creates.. it is wonderfully exciting.  

 I had some fun with making some of the these patio stones design... and then added a few other things...   Love making these "V's" too...  turned into little mountains... purple mountains...  Love it... 

 As said above I Love to doodle... and when I am going thru the house in the course of a day, I might stop some where and sit and doodle for a few minutes... it might be on the outside of an envelope... as this one was, with a ball point pen...  I don't get those nice even lines but I still have fun!!!  I am a little freer with this form...  as I go wild... 

Okay... another mimic as I loved this pillow look in Totally Tangled book... I am going to be doing some tangling on fabric this week... as I have to get back to my quilt...  I have really had a vacation for the past two weeks... a summer vacation not even leaving the house in I went to Tangle land... have you ever been there... it is WONDERFUL... and everyone is so very pleasant too...  you will enjoy it.. so join in and play...  it is fun, easy and wild place to visit... on a daily stop...

The sound of a wild snail eating...

Friday... wow the week-end is here!!!! Can hardly believe this... as it seems that yesterday was Monday... Yikes the time is flying by down here in the North Carolina mountains...We had rain too... what a delight that has been...  now to obtain a little balance with the rain.. we need it every week... but not a whole weeks worth... we enjoyed all that we got... and now need a good drenching once a week... that will be GREAT... thanks!!!

This week on Zendala Dare #14... Erin has a wonderful grid...  I think I will be making another couple of these... I love figuring out what to do with the 5 layers of 'beads' and also the surrounding areas...  but it went together quickly for me...  Snails and flowers are just fitting for this one...  Living in the mountains we have a lot of rock walls and fences... an also on the fronts of buildings etc... and each rock worker does it a little bit differently... so it is with Tangling... each person sees the tangle a little bit differently... and creates it a little bit differently too... This tile has my snails sending love and good feelings out to the universe... and the cosmos is just there for beauty.... so very fitting for each to be here together...  I just finished reading for the 4th time a book called  The sound of a wild snail eating... and since I love snails I thought I would do a tangle with a snail!!!   I love flowers too... so that is how these came about being here on this zendala!!!  

They are all so much fun... and learning some of them is quite a challenge in its self...  I love creating with these...  going to try my hand at a few more this afternoon...

New Tangles

 Two weeks ago, I bought a book on tangling and have not been able to stop doing this fun and relaxing art... it is truly fascinating to me in so many different ways...  I LOVE it, to say the least...  
I have been practicing a little bit over the past few days...  and here are the results of the Auraknot...  I have some trouble making the lines smooth... but that comes with practice, I know..  I dont really like certain pens either... so that is a problem... and I doodle all over the place.. so I have to either buy more pens... or learn to doodle where the pens are that I like to use... LOL... solution sounds simple huh??? 

 I ran out of paper space with this one...  


I call it Tennis anyone???  Looks like a lot of tennis rackets being swung... doesn't it..??? 

 Finally one that I like...  I wanted the piece to represent the Earth some how... and so I made little pieces of earth and grew some leaves in it...  then I added the blue sky.... 

 I am trying to get the hang of creating my own little spaces... and so I make a string and then work from that... 

 This piece of paper was again on my work table.. so it got doodled on...  The above pieces are all 3x3... this one is 2X4 and so I followed the paint movement and allowed it to be come the sea scape that it is... 

 I love this huge bead/shell looking tangle... and had to use it sometime.. and this seemed logical... so I had a lot of fun with it...  

  


A double auraknot... and put a wreath of flowers around it... need to work on the connection of items... that also has to be a learned process...  so many things to do on such a small piece of paper...  LOVE IT.... 

 This is also a 3x3 piece of paper.  I had fun with this one... I like the way it came out... seems more my style and also have to learn about backgrounds next to each other... thinking things through a little bit more... 

 2.5 x 3.5  ATC card...  a shell sprouting life...  I love the cross marking...  and also the little v's...  so very many unique designs and tangles...  trying to get through using them all..  some are a little bit confusing with the directions... so I will have to practice them a little more...  

 Working this braid and background was really a fun thing...  love the way it turned out... and felt it was a close-up of the back of a chair...  LOL.. 

5x5  paper... but the design is about 3.5 X3.5 ....  I loved these three wreaths when I saw them somewhere...  so very unique... so I had to try my hand at that... and then I added all the other backgrounds...   Love the buttercups in a column...  added a few things of my own...  but just loving this tangling... 

 More tangles... this is also on a 4x4 paper...  


I am using the string on most of these tangles that you see here... and feel good about doing that... 

I also love the use of colored pencils to show the direction of things... and also the boundary's of things...  some of the tangles don't go the way I want them too... but the paper is so small and if I use a little bit larger pen they don't work out correctly.. must get some smaller pens... 

These last two I did earlier this morning... now I have to do some chores... and then maybe I can do some more later on...

Auraknot

I am not sure if this is truly the auraknot or what.... I am on dial up and can not watch the video on how to do this great little thing... so I spent a lot of time, trying to figure out how to do this.. I think I have it... please let me know???  yikes... it was a lot of fun anyway... and I learned a lot...  and since this is my second week playing with these great little tangles...  I am still learning what to do... I think I need to have a main focal point... and not as many as I have on this one...   Any comments would greatly be appreciated...  constructive ones are greatly appreciated too...  I need to know what I am doing wrong... and also how to improve...  love doing these...  want to improve...  
 So here is my piece for the challenge today...  

 Over at I am a Diva the challenge is to do this knot... I love it... and hope I have done it correctly... it was fun!!!!  

I guess after time you can sit with out all the patterns and create... I am waiting for that day...  I like to just go with the flow type of  thing... and at this point I am not able to do that... but know that it will come with memory and time... LOL..

Recipes from my books

 In 2008 I wrote a couple of cook books... and they are still being published... each page has been created with a collage type format... and one recipe...  

I created over 200 pages... and made the books...  They were a project that took me over a year to make working on them each day of the year...  a real love of cooking and creating... most of the recipes are mine... as they are all VEGAN too...  which at the time my hubby and I were still vegan... we are now eating a little flesh products..  but I still use all my recipes as I love them all..  

The first time I made these was at Christmas Dinner and I use to make a dessert table... with pies, cookies and coffee and then I decided to make these... The Spiced Glazed Pears were gone in a few minutes... they were delicious...  and really not difficult to make...  So I decided to share this recipe with you for this challenge on Just Add Water, silly...   

The challenge is to share a recipe and collage the page...  

Here are a few more...  

 I am putting this one up, as fall will be coming soon... and maybe you will think about making some baked apples...  they are so very delicious and good for you...  


I do add all the things that are yummy too... like butter, nuts and a few raisins... none are bad... in fact if you use good butter that is organic and raw it is really the best thing on the market for you... a nice dessert, and healthy for you...  



 Eating good fats is 100% healthy....  I do hope that you can see these recipes...  if not, write to me and I will enlarge them...  being on this 'wonderful' dial up keeps my pictures small, so that I can blog...  

Now are first you might turn your nose up at this one...  as it has sea weed in it... but I have served this to so many people that have never eaten seaweed... and also to people that say that they don't like sea weed... and have never had anyone say that they didn't like it...  

It is one of our favorite summer time salads of  all times...  Easy to make and delicious too...   

 Any good health food store will have the arame (which is the sea weed)  and the pickled ginger...  Brown rice vinegar and tamari are also available there...  

A really nice cooling salad.   


Okay... so there are three really wonderful recipes...

Welcome to the world of ME!!!

A was just asked the question of how to start to journal... well there are so many ways... this is one way that I have done a few pages.. and it is a very easy way for some one who is a scrapbooker to do...  tear some paper and glue it onto the pages of your journal... 

 These papers dont have to be special ones... just papers that you have... maybe they are in a scrap pile that are too good to throw away... but you are not really sure what to do with them...  anyway... I find that to be true also with papers that I ink on... on the right the paper was a underneath paper to catch the red...  as it leaves huge marks on my table... LOL.. and I wasn't on my work sheet... (psst... don't tell anyone... okay...??)   

So I just used misc papers and glued them down... there was a little section that didn't get paper... so I filled it with a word that came into my mind... PEOPLE..???  I think that I felt that there were most likely  a lot of people that had walked thru that door... and so people it is...  

Then as always... I had to fill in all the blank spaces... do you see them all???  Well as a person that journals... that is just the beginning...  

 So I wanted to practice my Zen Tangling... and had just seen there really wonderful paisley... so I had to add that... and it was a practice one... so nothing in my journals is finished or perfect... just is!!!  


I love this one... I will have to use these paisleys in some of my work... I love doing these... they are fun and easy to me... 


I added a few words around the paisley.. 

 Later on that day, I had a design pop into my head... and it had to be done... but first I had to add a few words to that page...  Words that kept on sticking in my mind...  that is where all my creativity starts... in my head...   This was written under the paisley .... 


Simplicity in our living...  


This is a new mantra that will be seen and said many times a day... it is the way we are trying to live... SIMPLE... or as simple as we can... 
Little stress... living each moment as fully as we can... and enjoying it all...  doing my art... making great meals from our garden... and enjoying my husband!!!  What more could I ask for...  
Well I could ask for cooler weather...  I could ask for a lot of things... but I am happy and that is one thing that I have always given way too in my life...  

 This morning I woke up with this adorable flower in my mind... and then I saw the Fabrege Pineapple sitting on my nightstand table... and I though what a good way to draw this pineapple... with this little flower... LOVE it when a plan comes together... so I had to draw it... 


I grabbed one of my journals... and opened it to a page... and this was the page it turned to... so I guess it was meant to be here... next to this door.. where so many people have come thru... WELCOME... just had to be put above the door... Welcome to the world of ME!!!  


Fun... I always am having fun...  or trying to have fun... 

 So this is the way the pages look today... I will share with you when I add more...  

So if you are new to journaling and dont' really know where to start... try this method... it might be good for you now...  making a mark is the hardest part of the first page... just remember there are no mistakes... only ventures on the adventure... and they can all be positive ones...

Zendala #13

Flowers  Galore

before Tangling

 ZenDala #13...  On a FRIDAY... but that only means good luck... LOL...  I really had fun with this Template...  I did a few things to get it right... first off... the challenge was to use a paper... to get into the paper... I am so into paper that I couldnt' be anymore into it... without being paper myself...  BUT I wanted to create my own paper... so I used a piece of  cardstock that I had painted... or I should say Inked!!!   and printed the  Zendala on to that paper...  but the Zendala didnt' show up...  the ink overpowered it...  so back to the drawing board...

 So then I took my favorite white card stock... and printed it with a few Zendala's...  then I outlined them with a black pen...  I think I used a combination at this time, as I wasnt' sure how the different inks would stand up to my inking them like I love to do...  They all worked perfectly GREAT... so I was in luck...  then I started to play...  

 Since I am so very new to Tangling, I tried to use as many new tangles as possible...  learning as I go  type of thing...  so they are not all perfect... LOL...  I doubt they ever  will be...  


I really had fun with each and every one of these ....

Pink Lemonade 

 I used a Ranger Mini mister that I had put some Bottle Green into with some Gold Perfect pearls... and then splattered some Twinkling H20 gold onto the paper... love that...   But sometimes I get a little carried away with these sprays... but today I was working with small pieces of paper... as these mandalas are only 3.5 inches .... so I didn't have to use too much ink... that is for sure...  This one is Tim Holtz's new Summer Inks..  called Picked Raspberry and Ocean Blue... love them mixed...  
But then  I love making messes with my inks... and have a lot of practice with doing that...  
This one is called Pink Lemonade.. I can remember as a child my Mom always use to make Pink Lemonade... I thought lemons were pink!!!  What a shock to find out that they are yellow...  LOL... 

I used a lot of Perfect Pearls on this paper... and it is so yummie...  love to see it shimmer in my hands...  I have to make a book to hold all my Zen Tangles... and am going to mount them onto black cardstock... I love the way they stand out against the black...

Love of Life 

 I used Dylusion Sprays on this next one...  Yikes... I love those sprays... and this is so wonderful to tangle on too... 


Before I knew it I was done... and I really didn't want to be done with tangling on this... but it was finished... just the way I wanted it too..  ooops... My computer wouldnt' let me do this by myself... funny... anyway...  here is the Zen dala for the pink and yellow makes orange...  which I named Love of Life... as there is life of all kinds on there... 

I am a doodler .. so nothing is sacred when I have something to doodle with in my hand...  The other day I ran out of white paper where I was tangling... so I used a piece of printed paper that was on my work table... nothing is sacred... but I loved the results of it... and was going to do that today.. but really wanted to paint... my hands have not had any ink on them for over a week now... feels abnormal....  so I had to get inky...
